Sunday Facial

In a more traditional sense Sunday is a day of rest however for the most part, this is no longer true. All of the shops are open, granted for a shorter time but they are still open and for most people Sunday is no longer a day dedicated to religion. In the eyes of my grandma this is a mistake and it has made Sunday a normal day instead of it being something to look forward too. Gone are the days when Sunday was a rare day of rest. For the most part i do try and treat it as a special day and i do all that i can to avoid going out. When i manage to have a quiet Sunday it becomes a pamper day and Sunday last week was one of them.

Taking the idea from one of my favourite people to follow on Instagram, Alessandra Steinherr, today's post is all about my 'Sunday Facial.' She does a Sunday facial pretty much every Sunday on her Instagram stories and they are literally goals. If you are looking for a skincare wizard then look no further. Inspired by her weekly posting i wanted to share with you what i used on my face this week. My knowledge of skincare is no where near as detailed or advanced as Alessandra but you've got to start somewhere.

This particular Sunday i started my pamper with the Glamglow Gravitymud Mask in the limited edition Sonic Version. I have the standard chrome Gravitymud as well but i have been dying to try this one out and to see if it is any different from the traditional version. I will let you know my thoughts on the differences in a separate post but for now i will let you know what the Gravitymud does for your skin. Ultimately this is undoubtedly a gimmick but i love it anyway. This mask is a peel off mask designed to lift, firm and tighten the skin. The ingredients are way too complex for me to recognise them and to tell you what they do but i can tell you the effect this mask has. I like to leave it on for 30-40 minutes as i find that gives it enough time to dry and feel tough on my face. I peel it off and there are no drastic results, baring in mind i'm only 24 so i should hope that there are no major changes but my skin does look more defined and healthier. The only thing is, there is no nourishment in this mask but that comes later on in my routine. This is going to be good for you if you like a peel off mask and like to look like the tin man. Additionally it is a good one to use if you want to do other things as it is not messy and it is very easy to take off.  Personally i do like using this mask but i can't say it is worth the money. I like the effect it has on my skin as my make up does seem to go on better once i've used it but if you want to fight wrinkles this mask does not work miracles.

The product i used following the Glamglow mask is the Instant Boost Skin Tonic from Liz Earle. If you want something that is going to make your skin feel refreshed this is it. I use this to revive my skin and also to take away any excess mask that i might not have been able to get off when i was peeling it. This acts as a toner in my routine and has ingredients like Aloe vera which adds hydration, Chamomile and Cucumber which soothe and Vitamin E to help nourish the skin. This does have quite a strong scent which i don't mind as it is rose/floral scented but if you prefer your products to be fragrance free this 100% isn't going to be for you. The best part of this toner is that it is alcohol free so there is nothing to dry out your skin. This is one of the few toners i actually like and it is more gentle than an acid based toner like the Pixi Glow Tonic which i also love.

The final mask i used to add moisture back into the skin was the Origins Ginzing Face Mask. When i first bought this face mask i really didn't know that much about skincare so i was completely baffled by the fact you didn't need to wash this off. This mask is very refreshing and your skin feels rejuvenated after use. It has Coffee in it which is a popular skincare ingredient at the moment which helps to brighten the skin when used in a mask like this. Coffee stimulates blood flow so it has a similar effect to sitting in a bath which is why it is more commonly used as an exfoliant. The mask is a gel formula which feels super cooling so it has been amazing whilst we have been having super hot weather. I apply a thin layer of this mask onto my face and use it as if it were a moisturiser and my skin looks healthy and nourished. I must admit my tube is rather old and i did have a look online but i can't see it for sale anymore so i feel like i have tempted you with forbidden fruit but for the sake of being genuine, this was what i used on Sunday.

A part of my face i like to take care of is my eye area. Everyone always says that as you get older the two places you really show your age are your eyes and your neck so i am doing everything i can to combat this from a young age. Unfortunately i wear contact lense so i am constantly tugging on my eye area so i do try and use products that can help with this. I do love a good eye mask but they have been quite hard to come by in the UK. My favoruite eye masks are actually the Sephora Collection ones but as with all Sephora products they are hard to get a hold of in the UK. Luckily Soap and Glory recently launched a whole load of masks which are currently on offer in Boots. I picked up two packs of the eye masks in hope that they would fill the void that the Sephora masks left. These are quite an odd texture, they feel like Jelly. If you ever took apart a Jaffa Cake when you were younger, the eye masks feel like the jelly inside. The eye patches are meant to help tried looking eyes which was what i needed after a night of drinking cocktails on Saturday night. These contain Cucumber which helps to soothe puffiness and a mystery PUFFEASE™ technology, described a 'tripeptide that reduces the appearance of puff.' I don't want to go into too much detail because i will be doing a whole post of the Soap and Glory masks but this is the second set i've used and i do really like them.

I applied these for the same amount of time as i had the Glamglow mask on and when i took them off there was no serum to be rubbed in which showed i really needed these masks. Once i had used my toner (not around the eye area) I applied some of the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment so that my eyes were nourished and had something to sink in. I've spoken about the Creamy Eye Treatment a lot in the past few weeks and i absolutely love it. If you want your eyes to look healthy this is a wonderful product. Enriched with Avocado oil, your eyes are moisturised and if dryness is something you suffer with, this cream will help ease the pain. I can not say enough good things about this eye cream and i would recommend it to anyone.

That brings us to the end of the face pampering and takes us to the extra bits that often get neglected. I am very bad at nail care and that is why i have had so many problems with them lately. I went through a phase of having gel nails routinely put on my nails and i am still feeling the effects of this months later. Someone once told me that the best way to help your nails is to massage your nail Matrix. After the image of the film popping into my head i had to ask her where the bloody hell that was. Turns out it is the part of your fingers, just below your nails. It is where the nails steams from and where the nail growth comes from so a healthy matrix leads to healthy nails. She actually recommended the Jo Malone London Vitamin E Gel as a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an amazing nourishing ingredient. This is eye wateringly expensive but it is very versatile. I massage a little bit of this on to my nail beds and it helps to soften the cuticles and helps to keep my nails healthy. This gel is quite greasy so you do have to be prepared to do nothing after you've used it but that is exactly why it is part of my Sunday pamper routine. Not only has this been really good on my cuticles but it is amazing for all dry skin. A few years ago i burnt my leg quite badly and after the blisters had gone down i was left with painfully dry skin. I would apply this every night and it made the world of difference, my recovery was quicker than i expected and it helped to soothe the dryness rapidly. One day i will write a whole post on the many uses of this gel but that isn't going to be in this post.

My final little pamper section is my lips. They are quite often mistreated and neglected which means they can become quite dry. I am a matte lipstick lover and they really take a toll on the hydration of your lips so this Sunday i took the time to really prep and heal them for the week ahead. I start with a scrub, i'm not a massive scrub fan in general so i only have two to choose from but Sugar Plum Fairy from Lush is easily one of my favourites. I have a couple of the Lush lip scrubs but this one takes me back to my childhood. It basically smells like Ribena which was my favourite squash as a child. The moment i smelt it i loved it. I find the Lush sugar scrubs are quite abrasive and you can really rub them in to take off all of the dead skin. Personally i wash it off rather than licking it off (which you can do if you want) as i don't like the idea of all that dead skin going into my body. Once it has been removed there is a definite difference and my lips feel much smoother. After this i apply a lip balm and my personal favourite is the Baume De Rose from By Terry. Other than La Mer this is the most luxurious lip balm i've ever used. It has a subtle scent of rose and it feels thick when you apply it but not thick on the lips. It is lovely to apply and even more lovely to wear. You can feel it on the lips but i quite like this as you know it isn't going anywhere. Sometimes i will apply this before bed and i can still feel it on my lips the next morning. When my lips really need some care this is the balm i always use as i know it works. This is my second one, i originally had the version which was in the same packaging as their lip gloss which was easier to apply and had no colour. This new one i have is one of the Nutri-Couleur versions, tinted with a purple tone but it doesn't come across very strong so it just gives a tiny bit of colour, other than that it is identical.

That completes my Sunday facial for last week. I am aware that my skincare is very basic and the standard products most people use anyway but i thought it might be helpful to see what i like to use. Plus if you haven't given yourself a bit of a pamper in a long time it might make you want to give it a go this weekend. Skincare is so important and it is gives a fighting chance of helping to combat the signs of aging.
